The active involvement and consent of members of communities, groups and individual practitioners of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) is a central feature of the UNESCO 2003 Convention on the safeguarding of ICH. This entails that practitioners of intangible heritage should actively participate in all safeguarding efforts - such as documentation, research, promotion, enhancement, transmission, ... - that relate to the living heritage they practice.
This International conference taking place in Palermo will focus on the role that museums could play in this process of dialogue, of renegotiated roles and shared decision making, when they work together with these practitioners of intangible heritage that want to transmit their heritage to future generation.
